I just read in a recent Post magazine a quote from Ron Stein, Chief
Operating Officer of Crest National, that the picture quality of DVD
approaches that of D-1, and that it surpasses all existing
distribution media.

Marc Wielage of Complete Post (and this group) pointed out in January
that the compression artifacts were extremely obvious in the DVD he
saw at CES.

Is anyone in this group involved in the transfer of film for DVD, and
if so, can they shed some light on the compression process, and what
we have (or have not) to look forward to, as DVD matures?
