Not with the Keylink. However, we have worked with the Filmlab "Excalibur"
lab cueing/timing program, which is designed to take Keykode numbers from
Moviolas equipped with reader heads, and they seem to work despite the fact
that the Moviolas are hand-operated, typically on a frame-by-frame basis.
They were supposedly working on a system that would put this into
Avid-readable format, but whether or not this has been done (and works) are
good questions, however.

Anything is feasible if you've got the cash! Although you probably wouldn't
need all the features of the "Excalibur" program, it might make an excellent
starting point, or maybe somebody has something similar that would put you in
the right direction. It sounds to me like for what you want to do, you might
not need a full-blown Keylink either. In this case, you might be better off
experimenting with a generic reader head (e.g. RIM, Evertz, or Cinema
Products) and some custom code.

The problem isn't getting Keykode numbers in a step-by-step environment, it's
getting them to occur accurately and with correct timing in a video
environment! Having done a superb job of that, you're now asking Aaton to
take many steps backwards, which is what I presume they mean when they say it
may not be easy.
In pin-reg work, this issue is typically dealt with by not dealing with it.
Non-real time, pin-reg transfers are often done on short pieces of film in
conjunction with Paintbox work, where compositing is going on and the mattes
absolutely must line up with the images. If somebody insisted on going
pin-reg for other work, one would ordinarily do a dalies-style transfer for
the Avid and then only pin-reg what they had to later. Pin-reg telecine can
book for $1000/hr or more. At best, they average a frame every two seconds,
so for your grand, you might end up with about 60 seconds of video if you are
lucky! Pin-reg customers either have an excellent idea of what they want to
transfer beforehand, or they have so much money that they can afford to pay
somebody to log the Keykode numbers by hand!
