I think the point may have got missed somewhere along the line in this
discussion. There are two distinct concepts you have to bear in mind when
shooting day for night. First is (in simple terms) to make the picture
darker and a bit bluer.
Second is that - if the cheat is going to work - it has to look like night.
That means getting the lighting right. Put most simply, there is nothing
more laughable than day for night with sharp sunlight shadows. And this
constraint applies whether the result is destined for film or video.
