Re: Source for Sony SBX1602A Serial to Parallel chip??
A few more notes:
1. The SONY (and THOMPSON) 1602A "chip" is actually a hybrid, i.e. there
is a small substrate inside with a number of components mounted to it.
Hybrids are generally less reliable than a monolithic chip due to the
increased complexity.
2. The internal contamination failure mode that Bill Hogan mentioned is
well known around here - it even has a name: the "Purple Plague".
This problem seems to be exacerbated by heat.
3. Apparently SONY has discontinued the part (yikes), but THOMPSON still
makes it. The THOMPSON pn is STV1602A, I believe the contact is
THOMPSON BROADCAST.
